CHARLTON WINS BEST CUP SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

Best Country Cup - Charlton

It was a great Vic Cup Night at Melton for Charlton winning the Best Cup Day for the  medium sized clubs at the Country Club Awards. Whilst an unusual occurrence due to ongoing works at Charlton Park to have it at Melton, the support of members who turned out in droves to support the club ensured a fantastic night . Well done to all. To win this event for the second year in a row is a terrific boost to our club and fills us with confidence moving into the future.

Thank you also to the group who attended at Melton for the surprise win!

Charlton Cup 2019 At Melton A Great Success

Pacing Cup winner

The Charlton Cup 2019 was a great success at TABCORP Park Melton as over 200 members from all points of Victoria came together to celebrate the club’s flagship day. Whilst the new complex ‘at home’ goes up it was a terrific opportunity to introduce TABCORP Park to many who have never been there before.ll

Along with HRV Media Team led by Cody Winnell, the club fully embraced the Punters Party theme and were thrilled to have the support of the Carrol Brothers representing Team Charlton and the Goodform Boys Jason Bonnington and Blake Redden representing Team ‘The Rest’.

Charlton would like to acknowledge all those who attended and tried their luck on the night – without you there is no industry for us all to enjoy and we hope to plan more events that cater to your participation on course.

The competing Punters Clubs concept gave the room plenty of interest as Cody and Toby McKinnon kept everyone up dated on each teams progress throughout the night. Well done to Team Charlton who took the honours on this occasion – perhaps a rematch may be in order?

The pre event of the St. John of God  Bendigo Hospital Bubbles In The Bush was a tremendous success for the Women’s Cancer Foundation and Team Teal with everybody joining in the spirit of the auction, ably conducted by President Joe Thompson and Past President John Tormey. With the help of many donated items from TABCORP Park, Rich River Golf Club, Five Mile Building, the Bubbles Syndicate,Ames Australasia, Rex Theatre and the East Charlton Hotel the total that will forwarded help research into Ovarian Cancer is $7800.

We were also very happy to receive a generous donation form Inghams Farm Charlton of $500 – fantastic to have locally based businesses coming on board to help us build this event into something very substantial that our club can be proud of. Thank you to all who supported the raffle held in the street and on the night, won by local Lisa Bruns.

Thanks goes to our major sponsor St. John of God Bendigo Hospital who have for the third year running supported this important community event.

JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP CLUB LAUNCHED

The Charlton Harness Racing Club was thrilled to have 20 junior members attend the first function for them at President Joe Thompson’s Bushy Lodge. They were given a tour of the stables and Joe along with local driver Kirk Boyle gave all some insight in to the daily running of a racing stable. The kids got to meet Miss Meteor who posed patiently with all for snaps and pats after parading in her race gear.

Cricket and a bbq followed after all the feeds were done!

The club see this initiative as a great investment in the future of harness racing in Charlton and we look forward to involving the young members more fully in the times ahead.

XMAS IN JULY -BALLARAT TROTS

IMG_1329

Thank you to all of the members who braved a chilly Ballarat night to attend XMAS IN JULY on 13th July. A great night was had by everyone – terrific venue to watch the trots and certainly we were welcomed warmly and looked after so well by the staff at Ballarat.

Perhaps kicking on at the Flying Horse was a tad ambitious but ……

We urge all members who have not participated in social events before to ‘take the plunge’ and become involved. The Committee values these occasions to build some club spirit, so please consider future dates.

Dja Dja Wurrung Cup Day 2018

presentation cupsmoking ceremonyGirls with flagCollege kidsDun presentationThank you to our special guests the Dja Dja Wurrung People and Elders who attended the Dja Dja Wurrung Cup Day a day on April 16th.

The day was celebrated along with the Charlton community including 40 students from Charlton College who were part of the Welcome Smoking Ceremony and enjoyed an informative presentation by Damien Saunders on Indigenous artefacts. CEO Rodney Carter spoke about the importance of Elders and how family values are embraced within the Dja Dja Wurrung culture. It was with much enthusiasm that many had their first taste of kangaroo!

This day continues to grow and evolve, and it is the aim of the Charlton Harness racing Club to continue to nurture the good relationship that we have with the Dja Dja Wurrung People and develop this day in to one of major importance in our race day calendar.

We were also pleased to welcome back to Charlton Duncan McPherson founder of the Team Teal Campaign, who gratefully accepted a cheque from the Charlton Harness Racing Club as a result of our Cup Day ladies event ‘Bubbles In The Bush’. The club is proud to be involved in this initiative which goes towards supporting clinical trials and research in the hope of finding a cure for Ovarian Cancer. in a few short years this event has become a focal point of our Cup Day and we thank all of the women who have willingly taken part in order for it be a success.

The day was capped off wonderfully with a local win by Bruised Ego trained by Mark Boyle and owned locally by the Thompson family.
